:To The Moon Alice: Sea of Love

To The Moon Alice
September 2010

Sea of Love

The Sea and the Moon inextricably linked in a duel for my affection.. Emotional bodies that tug at my heartstrings, visually and metaphysically. And when the moon is full, the boundaries of my world soften, reality blurs and my mind takes a vacation to imaginary worlds wheres one's woes are left at checkin and wistful dreams are provided with room service. These images were intended for my next travel post... Phuket and The Andaman Sea... As luck would have it, the moon has taken a vacation too. He's travelling first class which leaves me in economy with no glimpse of his celebrity hidden behind the curtain that divides our realities.. Instead I'll bring you the product of my imagination..

... A full topaz moon shining over The Andaman Sea ...

September Moon Notes:
Moon Names: Harvest, Corn or Barley Moon
Moon was full at 19:18 Sept 23 [Sydney Time]

Gorgeous gorgeous, OH, these are gorgeous! It is like dreamy, lovely, turquoise love ... sigh ... I love it. And funny aside - when I stared going through the photos, I thought - this post should be called Sea of Love! So beautifully executed. I am going right back to look again. And again.

Julie, these images are fascinating! And taken with a disposable camera?!? Amazing manipulation of images, and your prose is divine. Have you ever captured a filigree moon? ;-) Thank you for sharing these beautiful studies. ~ Angela

Those little disposables can be worth their weight in gold. I'm loving what you accomplished here; lovely colourways, & I can almost see brushstrokes, tho I know there are none.

So sorry our friend hid from you... perhaps she'll be kinder to me tonite.

Breathtaking! The song Sea of Love is pretty cool too, as well as the movie (a thriller that has nothing to do with the sea though).

Of course, they are beautiful (& yes, painterly). As always. We were upside down moon watching (& Jupiter, too!) late last night & were thinking of you here. ('We' meaning Julie, too. I'm sure that's what she was thinking.)

well- I can tell you a funny story about the moon ( If I have not already done so)- One night I was driving my car and I looked up and there was a full moon and coloured a brilliant blue! I could not believe it.. I said "geez look at that!" it must only happen "once in a blue moon" So I skidded to a halt, scrambled for my camera.... only to realise I was looking at the moon through the blue window tint at the top of the windscreen!!!

Needless to say I was grateful there were no witnesses to my utter stupidity!! ahaha!

have a great weekend!

Your photography makes me want to run to beach and view that big old moon. When we got back it was glowing with that ring it gets when it's going to get cold...at least that's what I think it means.
You've created breathtaking paintings with your editing. You must really be enjoying getting PS back.
I think I'm ready for an upgrade myself!

Julie,
I would say this is the perfect start to my weekend! Life is so much sweeter with Room Service.
I will be looking forward to traveling with you to beautiful Phucket. I had the pleasure of spending Christmas there the year before the tsunami hit.

Hi Julie, what a beautiful post both the words and the photography. There is something very special about the water - I never live more than 5 minutes away from it and the moon - well I am just starting to understand and appreciate it's relevance and beauty

I cannot believe you made these fabulous images from a disposable camera. Very clever indeed!

These are among your most beautiful images and their washed-out look makes me feel old. Not old in a bad way but old in a chic and sixties way, full of anecdotes about famous people I've known and unspoilt holidays.

(I'm tailoring a very senior company role especially for you...)

Hey Julie, I am glad you spied my little wooden ferry. It was a reminder for me of my last trip to Sydney, now many years ago, my lovely friend I went with got a tad sick on the manly ferry and I thought it was very funny to get this little wooden ferry when I saw it at the rocks markets as a tease and it is just so cute! Wouldn't it be lovely if I could visit again and we could chat in person, cheers Katherine xx
