If It's Tuesday: Un Altro Portofino

And.. the splendor of the Italian Riveria ... I LOVE ITALY .. but you knew that and I loved Portofino.. playground to the rich and famous.. and on this August day in 1996 .. playground to the budget conscious backpacker.. 'Me'. Although even on a budget.. one is able to appreciate the faded glory of palazzos and terraces that grace this area of Italy... There is still an earthy presence as one finds in the architecture and streets of Roma.. but also an air of lightness .. playfulness in the brightly coloured buildings .. pastels and ombre hues dancing in the summer haze and reflected blues from the azure sea lapping at the walkways.. ... I LOVE ITALY ..
.
.

Now I've posted about my time in Portofino and Santa Margherita before, so I won't bore you with these details again.. but present you with a re-run of some of my snapshots. This time in the blueish, sepia-ish tones of my Roma travel post [here]. I'm a little addicted to these colourways at present.. but being fickle, I'll probably move on to another colour love soon.

Hopefully you are not getting too bored with my Italy posts?
.
Or rather my travel snapshots....As I'll have another Italy post for you soon..
Not out of my system yet.. so some shots of Taormina that I haven't posted before ..

Thanks everyone for the emails and comments re the devastating floods up north
My heart aches for those struggling with this

Julie b

I want sun, I want sea, I want Italy, I want the Mediterranean - thank you Julie, these beautiful shots are exactly what I needed today as it tips down with rain in Normandy and everyone I know seems to have a cold!
So sorry about what is happening in your beautiful country at the moment, really difficult for us europeans to comprehend the scale of the flooding and the damage.
all the best to you and have a great weekend

Oh dearest, YOU could NEVER bore anyone and as for Italy...well, she has been around a long time and has called many generations to her shores and vineyards, country side and cities with the same sensuality, sublimity, good taste and wonder. YOUR PHOTOS ARE STUNNING and you can show me different angles of the same thing and I will see something new from your eye's lens. THANK YOU FOR THIS TREAT. I love Cinque Terra...my budget's version of PORTOFINO!!! HAVE A SPLENDID DAY! Anita

Hi Julie,
For years, I have spent lots of time in Paris .... it's my Italy. But lately, and after seeing Eat, Pray, Love, I have been thinking of getting back to Italy again. After seeing your beautiful photographs, I now know I will be making tracks back to that most beautiful country.
Your photography is absolutely amazing. After my move back to the big city, I want to take a photography course so that I will be technically better. What you have is the eye ....
Happy weekend.

Julie I'm sure after what's been seeing on TV the last few days your mind is eager for some visual relief. It's completely understandable and these photos and memories must give you great comfort now. A time when you could just enjoy the sun,the sea and the architecture of this romantic escape called Portofino.

I especially love the 4th one where the first boat seems to be right there for the touching.

xo,
Carole

I love your experiments with this colourway as the results are so amazing. You could have this exhibited in a gallery, the quality is stunning, but your photographs always are! And it's devastating hearing the news in the world at the moment - my thoughts are with Australia and Brazil.

The colors are exquisite dear girl.

Water can be a blessing and a curse. My thoughts are with all those suffering in all parts of the world with nature's extremes. It does appear that we have entered another "age of difficulties".
