IF IT'S TUESDAY: Encore Taormina

The last instalment in this round of "Italy Week'... Beautiful Taormina ... I'll move on to something else soon.. but first these extra shots of Taormina and the wonderful baroque architecture of the Church of San Giuseppe .. Some in the sepia-ish colours favoured this week ... and a few black & whites .. Although I couldn't resist maintaining the colour of the pink blossomed trees and the surprising hot pink.. or should I say 'Honeysuckle' hued pants of the stylish lady front and centre.. Do you think she knew back then 'Honeysuckle' would be the Pantone Colour for 2011? Probably not.. I think she has a style all her own and would look great no matter what she was wearing. The key to her style? Confidence!! or.. is it the sunglasses? haha

The church is situated on the Piazza Novo Aprile along the Corso Umberto I, and in some of these shots you can also see the clock tower .. Il Torre dell'Orologio... and the fabulous neon sign 'Wunderbar' .. This area reminds me of Italy in the 50's.. well at least in the movies.. I'd love a replica of that sign.. that .. and the 'Il Sogno' sign from Piazza Navona in Roma..

Oooh..
And more silliness .. Every time I look at that kid on the bike.. it reminds of a scene in While You Were Sleeping..
... I keep expecting him to take a tumble any minute ...
... haha.. I'm so mean! ...

A Happy Happy Week To All
I saw a blue butterfly this morning which is quite unusual around here.. normally we only get the black & white varieties.. so here's hoping it is a good omen for blue skies.. happy days..

Dearest Julie,

Well, you almost make me homesick for Italy again... We lived and worked there and have visited it numerous times. We lived in the Venice area but went around a lot.
Love that culture and the food; the jewelry and the design for leather and clothes!
By the way, talking about Italy and jewelry; have you checked out my 925/000 silver angel giveaway from Giovanni Raspini/Italy? It is still on till January 25th... To the right of my blog is the button; click on it and it gets you right there...

Good luck and ciao,

Mariette

Hi Julie! I miss visiting your blog. I think I could live in Italy and I've never even been there! I love the new pantone color but don't think I could wear pants that color! That would draw too much attention to that area. I hope you get some beautiful weather like we're having over here in Southern California. Now I remember why I loved it here so much! Have a wonderful week too! Jennifer:)

Hello again, Julie,
It feels an age since I've visited...been out on vaca since the 16th of December so it's been hard to keep up. I've missed so much in the last week or so.
Love the black and whites on this post...especially with the one with the shot of hot pink...the subjects and your treatment of them feel so old Hollywood...from the 30s and 40s...except for the hot pink capris that feel so Twiggy...remember her? Or are you too young for that? hee hee
Thanks for stopping by :)

Hey there lovely Julie… may you see more blue skies and more blue butterflies. It is reassuring that the blue is surrounding you and the rain is not overtaking.

Something about the word honeysuckle just tickles my fancy. I was the bad little child who stole it's nectar from the butterflies & bees... it's perfume always went straight from my tongue to my nose.

These images do look like the setting for a film. For some reason, I feel the clock is a clue to something important, why is that? And the running bond pattern of the pavement puts things just a little off balance, as if a director intended me to feel that way.

You do have a way, Julie. You do have a way.

I've been ill & away from the news, am just learning about Australia's troubles. My heart goes out to all who are in need or pain. We so associate water with life... often forgetting it has power to change lives in a sad way.

Peace & love to you,
Julia across the ocean

Wonderful photos. How do you remember the places; do you take notes at the time? I came home with hundreds of photos and wouldn't have a clue which church or where it was. I can only go by dates as to where I was on that day! Keep it up; can always take more of Italy!!

Portofino is just spectacular, your shots are amazing Julie - I get a real sense of being by the water. However did you manage tha angle?
And Wunderbar - not an italian word, but i could imagine a micro version neon sign for the diningroom wall or some such fun !
And yup - a confidence thing - those italian women seem to ooze it.

Hello, a few days late. Love love love the honeysuckle pants. I did not know that was the color for 2011. Oh wait, if that's hot pink, then yes I did read it. I think of yellow...ok, now I'm totally confused except that the pix are great as always. And I know what you mean about the 1950s Italian cinema reference. xoxo

Hello lovely one, ahhh so beautiful, so soothing. Thank you for all your lovely words always. Every so often when I look at pictures I somehow seem to see the people more. Sometimes you see them of course but don!t really look at them...if you know what I mean? These pics somehow make me look at the people...who are they I wonder, where are they..are they Alive, which ones are not...yes I am a strange one. But photos are such a moment in time preserved forever like a fossil. I wonder what the lady would make of her red pants ha..hope you have a lovely day, xxx kaherine

My five sisters took my 82 year old mother there last year. Her family was from Trecastigni It was spectacular! We made the mistake of renting a car which was at times life threatening considering the streets and drivers! hiring a driver next time. We spent many days on the corso Umberto!
