Silver Sunday - It's Raining Teapots !

It's Raining Teapots!!
.
Well it's hot, humid and raining cats and kittens here in Sydney and has been all week. The plant life seems to like it and I'm finding it kind of relaxing myself. Everything is a little greener than usual and the world feels fresh and clean again. Of course if it keeps up much longer I may get a little stir crazy like this little teapot below who wants to go out.. sitting by the window wishing for adventure, or maybe she just needs a nature call.

.
.

.
.

So back to the subject at hand.. Silver Teapots!
.
Yes I have a few.. The BIG teapot above [the one labelled 'BIG teapot' ha ha] was probably my very first teapot in a long line of teapots! It belonged to my grandmother and at some point ended up in my grubby little hands. It's the only teapot I can recall playing 'teatime' with as a child. A little on the large side for a small child, but it brought with it daydreams of magical places and faraway lands. It must be at least 90yrs old, a little fat around the girth, and polished within an inch of it's life, but I do believe it is still my favourite.
.
.

.
.
Now this next fancy number is a little more hoity toity and carries her weight in her thighs!!! Not of vintage heritage, I found her showing off in a window display of L'Occitane home & body products. She thought she was something. So did I!, so I begged the shopkeeper to sell her to me. She agreed to sell once the promotion was over and so a few weeks later, home she came. I think she thinks she's French! When in fact she is actually Indian, which just makes her more exotic to me. I meant to include some Indian tea glasses but somehow forgot and as I'm already running late with post, it ain't going to happen now. Actually she was the hardest to photograph. Every shot reflected miniature upside down Julie's just hanging there, camera in hand, mocking me!!
.
.

.
.

.
.
The remaining teapots are of various vintage breed and unknown heritage. Orphans, picked up at thrift stores and vintage shops. The one below looks as if it has an image on the front, but yet again it is just some strange reflection. This one also came with sugar bowls to match [which you can see further down the page] so not wanting to break up a family, I bought them all.
.
.

.
.

.
.

.
.

.
.

And finally the coffee pot!
.
I did try to explain he was not a teapot and could not rightly be included in this post. He wouldn't hear of it. In fact he pushed his way in by pushing out the Alessi kettle who skuttled off back to the stove blowing his whistle in protest. I had to promise him he could be included in a future post. He simmered down a bit once he had let off a bit of steam. Wouldn't want to upset an Alessi!!

.
.

.
.
.
.
.

Well that concludes the Silver Teapot post!!
.
Strangely I have never consciously collected teapots and these silver ones have many non-silver siblings. They just seem to follow me home.
.

What is it about vintage silver that makes my heart sing?

Julie I just spent 1/2 an hour scrutinising your teapots to see what sort of glimpse of you I could get. It's all a bit Harry Potter ish which is fine as every one knows that only the English drink tea ;-) Am ducking blows from French hubby who has never had coffee in his life... So how what magic did you work on your teapot so she hid your reflection???

Your silver teapots are gorgeous, Julie! I can see waiting weeks for the first one. Think of all the people admiring her in the shop window!! She must be a real show off! I love the second teapot with all of the raised...whatever it is. Very nice. And so is the coffee pot!! Let's see more of your pitchers. I have a small collection myself.

Your rain does look very refreshing. I love a warm summer rain...or is it fall there by you now?? I confuse easily.

Today is Super Bowl Sunday here, you know. Not being a football fan, I have been relegated to making dips and appetizers for a party my daughter is having. I am not sure if I am invited. Anyway, I'm off to grate 2 pounds of cheese!!

They are gorgeous! I love teapots and have a few myself. Mine are all china of various vintage, some very old and a few very new. They make me happy. Most of the time I make myself a single cup of tea...but sometimes, on a lazy day...I'll make an entire pot, pick up a book and simply savor the moment.

What lovely, lovely things you have. The Indian teapot is my favourite, but they must look super all grouped together and vying for who is sparkliest. I just need you to come by and do some polishing for me when you have a moment. And some photography while you're at it. And some funny credits. It's not too much to ask, is it?

Ok I'll admit I was trying to see you in these tea and coffee pots. Is that wrong? haha
I haven't tried photographing shine silver yet but I guess it is hard to not get your face or camera in the stuff. I love the rainy window in the background but I love rain as you know. Maybe it'll cool things off a bit.
My favorite pic is the altered overhead shot.
SO cool!!!!

I think now I must go find myself a silver teapot...these are so lovely. Your images always amaze me with their beauty. Hope you are having a lovely day across the water blue. xoxo

Hot and humid? I could use some of that as all we are hearing is wind chills. BRRRR!

Tea sounds good, it always warms me up.

Your collection is stunning. I have many teapots but only 2 silver ones and neither are as ornate as yours. I hope you actually use them. They are too pretty to keep stored away.
Do you ever have tea parties? You strike me as quite the hostess.

Julie=Ruby, you are an enchantress. I love to immersing myself in your delicious words and gorgeous, well-cropped and glorified pictures...and the design of the blog, itself, is divine.

This post is particularly endearing, silver being silver...the surfaces so sensual and reflective. Love how you said they'd been polished to within an inch of their lives...can one polish silver too much?

So glad you checked on seagulls!!

Between your whimsical descriptions and dreamy photographs you just produced one of your best presentations ever, Julie! I found myself fascinated by the reflections in the teapots, something I've never really paid much attention to before. I love the way you view your world.

Dear Julie,
I have to admit that I was doing the same as Carole...trying to see you in the smooth silvery finish of those beautiful teapots !! haha.
Stunning photographs, my favourite being the BIG teapot. I love the first photograph..... is that a picture behind it? It looks as if you live in India with those houses behind the teapot.
All of the others are gorgeous too. I love all of their different textures. What with the rain, there is a real Indian look about the whole post. XXXX

Just found your blog I enjoyed reading it and your great photos. My mother collected Tea pots And the odd Coffee pot. But none were shiny and silver so I was not too interested being of the Magpie type.

Kudos once again to the fabulous Miss Julie! Love the teapots, mine is tucked away in a cupboard. Silver and Florida do not get along, the humidity quickly tarnishes everything and these old hands are tired of polishing.

You know you truly love something when you look around and all of sudden realize you have a collection!

Nancy said...

Loved your tea pots! You are so artistic. I do like your little "French" number with the chubby thighs.

Oh Julie great teapots!! How long did it take to get a shine on them? They are dazzling, great picks, that naughty coffee pot though sneeking in, hee well he does look gorgeous, could you blame him? hee.

Those teapots are just speaking to me, Julie. I've inherited a couple from my Grandmother, and I just adore them. The kids love to polish them up...seeing the tarnish removed and the silver restored to its proper glory. They truly find them magical.

Everything's almost back to normal in our house....thanks for your lovely comments. They turned my frown upside down. Meredy xo.

Stunning photos, but I think I would have included the kettle as well. Poor thing.

We'd owned a coffee pot named Stanley and a tea kettle named Ollie for years. Ollie finally gave up the ghost, so I brought out the copper Enligh tea kettle. It's still waiting for a name, but it's a lot like yours - same personality. :)
Have a great week, Julie!

Oh Julie what you do to me..lol

I love the idea that Miss Teapot believes she's French & you just let her live in her fantasy. I often do that!! My favorite sure enough is the one with the black handle, but they are all so lovely. Happy..happy weekend to you and let's hope the sun shines bright xx hugs
