Down By The Sea - Kids At Play

... 'Kids At Play' ...
.

Today was a pleasant day. Finally not too hot... not raining.. not humid... just pleasant. The only dampener on my spirits, was the feeling that the light has changed.. that perhaps the summer sun has shifted slightly.. or was that just the crispness in the air? That feeling that perhaps summer is slipping away.. I'm not ready!!
.
Every year I do the same thing. I miss spring and the beginning of summer, working away in a locked office. Mid summer always seems too hot.. and then just when I feel ready to get out into that sunshine.. it would seem summer is slipping away. I wonder if this is just a last minute attempt to get my act together. haha.. maybe... either way I feel the change is coming and I am not ready. It spells short days, a return to work and the sunshine and bright skies will be but a memory. I may hatch a plan to get around this. I don't know what the plan is yet!
.
Just thinking and dreaming
.
.
In my usual last minute fashion I went down to the beach in the late afternoon to saviour the sunshine and take a few pics. My camera does not have a viewfinder.. only the LCD screen which is rendered useless in bright sunshine. This is a big mistake if you are considering purchasing a camera.. I was warned about this .. but did I listen? Of course NOT! Yet I am always surprised by the incredibly sharp images full sunlight provides. Surprised as invariably it's a bit of aim and shoot and hope that I capture something other than the camera strap. All that is visible in the glaring sun is my grubby fingerprints on the LCD.
.
Well as luck would have it I did manage a few images I liked. One of them being these kids at play in the late of the day. That sums up summer to me.. the freedom of being at play! Sand under foot and just running around carefree! Or.. choosing the lazy path like the sunbather behind them!
.
.. That's it for today ..
.
Just my little token of summer
.

I LOVE the photo and the editing. I'd love that as a print!! 12 X 14. How much, please?!!

Funny., as you anticipate fall, I am watching icicles melt and although spring happens very late in Chicago, just the sight of seeing something melting...(I would use italics for melting, if I could!)well it feels great! So it seems you work seasonally. I remember how bogged down you were over our winter, your spring. I feel bad that this is your situation. Aside from that, I have to admit I am one of those rare people who loves all of the seasons. Each one is a respite from the one before!!

I so love this particular painterly look! Funny, the thing with that LCD screen in sunlight. Even though I do have a view finder, I don't like to use it anymore (since the invention of the screen)..., so I just shoot, and let it be a surprise!

You turned a photo into that, Julie? It's beautiful. And my awareness of faraway places has been much enhanced by blogging - I always knew our winter was your summer, but never imagined actual People in it, but now I sit enviously at my computer reading of the sun and waiting till it warms up here and you get chilly and wet and we can all post some breezy taunting over at our end.

You do art with the images of your cámara!!.Enjoy the moments now, in Europe we are living a winter very cold and length and we want to see the spring again.

Nice picture! I love how it looks like a painting.

You may not have a viewfinder on your camera, but just imagine if it wasn't digital. How much time and expense just to find out the pictures are less than good! At least you can delete and try again the next day. The trouble with my camera is my screen is so small, about 1 1/4" x 1", so even not in bright sun, without glasses, it is really hard to see. And a lot of times it does look good that small. It's only on the computer that I can finally see the stupid thing is blurry or otherwise not a good shot. Anyway, you did good for not seeing what you were shooting!

Hugs,
Tamerie

oh, Julie what a delicious PAINTING!!!..however do you do that? You techies are so BRILLIANT with computers. Photoshop?...and I know what you mean about the LCD screen. That was the one big consideration I had when purchasing a camera...I can't see what I'm doing with that screen...I have a view finder and LOVE IT!!!

Absolutely stunning Juile...and where oh where was this photo taken?? It is like playing 'Where's Waldo' when I see your photos. Is the ship coming or going? Where the river meets the sea....I will have a think about that one. I remember those days when the light began to slightly alter...so much better than the TOTAL BLACKOUT here...:) Sun was out today so I should not complain. Love your post, as always!

Julie,

I relate to the feeling of summer slipping away. It's still full-fledged winter here (snow), so I'm looking forward to spring. Love today's image.

I finally got around to posting the Five Diamonds Awards. My long delay is in direct proportion to my gratitude for your gesture in awarding it to me. Thank you again for the recognition.

Love this image. I seem to get into Summer, just as it's on the turn, I would love to be able to have the time to relax, enjoy and experience the full three months.

I love that photo. And although I am pleased that spring is on its way here, I am sad to hear that with my spring comes the return of you to your locked office. So sorry.

Hey if you can figure out how to stop the seasons from moving ahead we need to talk!! haha
I actually love the end of summer and the cooler days of Fall. I guess the seasons mean different things to all of us.
It does seem funny to think of you at the beach while I'm here with boots on and there's snow outside. Enjoy the last days of beautiful weather.

What an interesting "painting", Julie! You are truly an artiste. For you, summer is winding down. For me...I am seeing glimpses of spring (pollen and all...a-choo!) It's still unusually cool here in central FL...it's actually been warmer in Vancouver at the Olympics!!! As much as I like wearing sweaters all day, I am looking forward to opening the doors and windows and airing the house with balmy air.

Have a great rest of the week...
Jane (artfully graced)

Julie, I thank you for visiting my blog and commenting on the black chair, yep, can't wait to get the fabric done, but stop by and see my little table I was working on. Cute, cute, cute!
I also left you a message on my blog about the coloring of your blog, now after revisiting it I need to tell you (I'm sorry) :( it is too dark and hard to read, I changed mine for the same reason. Perhaps you could leave it dark and lighten the wording a bit.

Dear Julie,
That is just amazing !!
I looked at it, thinking it was a water colour from the 40's, read your text and was waiting for your photograph but the first one IS your photograph. How did you do that ? It's incredible.
Sorry that you are approaching Autumn but I'm afraid it happens to all of us. Go out there and enjoy what Summer you have left. XXXX

Well, I don't have to comment on the beauty of your photo cause you know I'm already taken with your talent and if I had've been a jealous person I would've been green with envy each time, but instead I am just amazed and hope that the mere act of knowing you will help some of it rub off on me. NOPE! What I want to say is... what I remember loving most in Aussie, and even here now on the beach, is the end of summer light. That light that still has the warmth but less of the burn; the haze and glow, with less of the intensity. Oh do go out at the end of the day more for me ... for that (and daybreak) are my favourite times... Or get on that Paquebot and come to France where you'll be just in time for spring here ;-)

As you grasp to hang on to summer, we are looking for any hint of spring. Of course we can't see it for the snow:( It is so strange to talk to someone who has the opposite going on, I've never done that before. My niece is spending 6 weeks in Australia this summer (our summer) so that will be your winter...she's going from winter to winter, crazy girl!

I love the beach shot...I love the beach.

I oh so miss the warmth of summer, being a Leo at heart....I can't wait for spring to bring the sunshine and heat...thank you for reminding me...smiles.

Lovely shot. It sounds funny to hear about Summer when we are in the depths of Winter. I hope you enjoy the remainder of your Summer.

I know what you mean about the sun on the screen. Wish someone told me about it before I bought my camera. I think I am going for a digital SLR this time versus my little point and shoot. Think I'm ready for a big girl camera.

Have a great weekend!
