To The Moon Alice: March 2010 - Blue Moon 2x

Picture yourself in a boat on a river,

With tangerine trees and marmalade skies.

Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly,

A girl with kaleidoscope eyes.

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green,

Towering over your head.

Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes,

And she's gone.

March 2010 - Blue Moon Two
.
.

Once in a Blue Moon we have two full moons in the same month, and once every 19 years or so we have two Blue Moons in the same year. Here in the southern hemisphere Tuesday's full moon was just that. The second for March and a repeat performance of January. Very unusual. I once recounted the memory of such event to a friend who informed me with much certainty that it was impossible. Impossible!!!! So .. two blue moons in three months. A good time to remember that the unlikely, unusual and uncommon do occur and we shouldn't always believe the word 'impossible'!!
.
.

Strangely, this rare occurrence has gone almost entirely unnoticed. No fanfare like the January 31 Blue Moon which had people fluttering about buzzing on her electric energy. Perhaps the old girl is tired from her previous showgirl antics . No.. this time round she is sedate.. almost slipped past without recognition. If it were not for my exceptional powers of deduction [ie I can count] I may have missed her myself. Although I am still yet to see her. She has once again brought a mist of rain and is resting behind her cozy blanket of clouds. Hopefully tonight she will wake up and do her little dance in the heavens above us and comfort us with her nightlight.

.
.

Meanwhile here are some re-masters of January's crop to fill the void.
As you can see I'm still dreaming about an island getaway

.
.

.
.

.
.
.
.

post updated to include March 31 photos ..
La Luna finally showed herself larger than life,
a huge yellow saucer in the sky...
sadly my photos don't reflect how beautiful she was

.
.
.
Moon Notes:
The March Full Moon is also known as Windy Moon, Sleepy Moon and Fish Moon.
The Moon was full 30th March 12:26pm Sydney Time. The Moon is in the sign of Libra !!
.
.
Other Strange Facts You Didn't Want To Know
.
The name Lucia means Light and therefore I think an apt name for the moon.
St Lucia was a 4th century martyr from Syracuse and patron saint to the blind. She was said to have had her eyes gouged out and thus is the patron saint to the blind.

Lucia is a common name in my family. Had no idea that St. Lucia was a patron saint for the blind.
Love the photos, Julie. Spectacular!

Blue Moon
You saw me standing alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
Blue Moon
You know just what I was there for
You heard me saying a prayer for
Someone I really could care for

And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will hold
I heard somebody whisper please adore me
And when I looked to the Moon it turned to gold

Blue Moon
Now I'm no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own

And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will ever hold
I heard somebody whisper please adore me
And when I looked the Moon had turned to gold

Sorry, I couldn't resist!

So lovely! You are your own best competition- did that make sense? I mean each week your latest post competes against the prior week...and each week you are indeed the winner. Wish you lived near me. I need your insight into photography. Hey, maybe you could do tutorials on the blog or e- lessons? SIgn me up!

These pictures are stunning Julie, and all those different names for the moon are so romantic and full of hidden meaning.
In French, to describe someone who is a dreamer, we say "elle est dans la lune", she's in the moon.

Julie, so, so beautiful. Lucky you had the wherewithall to capture such exquisite beauty. That quote reminds me of the song that Jimmy Stewart sings in "It's a wonderful life"..."and they danced by the light of the moon". Ah, love that movie.

It seems Photoshop has become a fast friend in your life, much to our benefit. Hope you're enjoying your free time and your neck is feeling a bit better. Are you enjoying the rain? After all that humidity, I have to say, I'm quite happy for the respite. My laundry says otherwise. Hope you have a wonderful week. Meredy xo.

aahhh ..... this is so beautiful. Hopefully the clouds will clear soon and I'll get a glimpse of Lucia before she goes on her way. Leigh

Again so beautiful. I didn't even notice the full moon. Just shows how out of it I have been. No wonder there are so many poems and songs about the moon. Something so so magical about that round silvery-ness. xoxoxo

Dear Julie,
Have you been on the tablets !!!!....you have used such beautiful colours and, to use one of my favourite Lennon/McCartney lyrics, LITSWD, was genius. It was the perfect accompaniment to your wonderful image. If it's to be believed what that song was about, it is exactly the right lyrics to use and the cartoon that accompanied the song in 'Yellow Submarine' was so colourful, just like your photograph. Inspired.
You know that I love sepia and black and white but I am loving this colourful period that you are in at the moment. XXXX

Julie - not quite sure how you do it, but once again the most amazing photography I've ever seen. The words you chose with it were superb. Marmalade skies and tangerine trees, how utterly divine. I did not know that about St. Lucia. You could make a fortune designed greeting cards & stationery. To have such a marvelous talent such as you do, must make you feel truly special? A true gift from God. Hoping all is very well & you have a glorious weekend planned? All my best to you xoxo

Ah Julie, I now come to your blog to see what the moon is doing, thanks to the moon watch in your sidebar, it effects us and the world so much, we don't even realise it half the time. These photos are simply stunning and ethereal.

How do you do it? Your photographs take the breathe away.

Here comes an embarrassing admission: I thought "once in a blue moon" meant "never" -- I didn't know they existed. So thank you, thank you. I've always thought a perfect day is when one learns something new, not the hard way, but like this.

Please put the little red SOLD sticker on the one with the twinkling lights on the horizon and the intense pastels. And a sticker on the actual moon too, while you're at it - I never took much of an interest before but your knowledge and enthusiasm and the beauty of your images are certainly winning me over.

Julie, thank you for the lunar lesson...there seems to be a bit of lunacy 'round my town...smiles.

I dunno...I wonder if some blue moons aren't supposed to be the talk of the town...festooned in gossamer layers of praise and adulation. I wonder if this second is supposed to do what it does...beautifully. Unannounced. Perfect. No parades.

I think that's the one I choose to see. lucky you. You did.

wow this must all feel good...you are as good as everyone says Julie. I love your photography ..is photoshop hard to learn...I would probably get addicted.. Thank you for your comment...My story was easy to write...it just came out of me with no plan and certainly no intention of doing it..It was afterward that was hard and the guilt really got to me...But I was able to let it go. No one else will write my story so I might as well. Us kids have alot to figure out compared with the children of"normal homes"..

Our moon was blue, too. But i think that's because it was....em.....SNOWING?! So, once again, i missed snapping a full moon. Ah well, i'm very content to look upon your bellissima luna! :))

St Lucies or St Lucias are commonly given here to ward off bad luck and evil. Protectrice is she! Now - why don't you be a good girl and do as Yvonne tells you ;-) Haha - I wish our blue moon had so many sparkly diamonds and bright red, exotic flowers - You could've done the set design for the Last Alice in WOnderland I'm sure.

Do you know how long it takes me to HAND WRITE the beautiful script you have in the first photo? I may soon just give up and come over to study with you Julie!

Spectacular post, Julie! I was delighted to see the lyrics from Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds included with your incredible pix ... those are my all time favorite song lyrics. A coffee table book of your moon theme images interspersed with related song lyrics and/or movie lines or titles would be a true treasure for anyone to own.
