To The Moon Alice: March 2010 - Blue Moon 2x

Picture yourself in a boat on a river,

With tangerine trees and marmalade skies.

Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly,

A girl with kaleidoscope eyes.

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green,

Towering over your head.

Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes,

And she's gone.

Lucy in the sky with diamonds

March 2010 - Blue Moon Two
.
.

Once in a Blue Moon we have two full moons in the same month, and once every 19 years or so we have two Blue Moons in the same year. Here in the southern hemisphere Tuesday's full moon was just that. The second for March and a repeat performance of January. Very unusual. I once recounted the memory of such event to a friend who informed me with much certainty that it was impossible. Impossible!!!! So .. two blue moons in three months. A good time to remember that the unlikely, unusual and uncommon do occur and we shouldn't always believe the word 'impossible'!!
.
.

Strangely, this rare occurrence has gone almost entirely unnoticed. No fanfare like the January 31 Blue Moon which had people fluttering about buzzing on her electric energy. Perhaps the old girl is tired from her previous showgirl antics . No.. this time round she is sedate.. almost slipped past without recognition. If it were not for my exceptional powers of deduction [ie I can count] I may have missed her myself. Although I am still yet to see her. She has once again brought a mist of rain and is resting behind her cozy blanket of clouds. Hopefully tonight she will wake up and do her little dance in the heavens above us and comfort us with her nightlight.

.
.

Meanwhile here are some re-masters of January's crop to fill the void.
As you can see I'm still dreaming about an island getaway

post updated to include March 31 photos ..
La Luna finally showed herself larger than life,
a huge yellow saucer in the sky...
sadly my photos don't reflect how beautiful she was

.

.
Moon Notes:
The March Full Moon is also known as Windy Moon, Sleepy Moon and Fish Moon.
The Moon was full 30th March 12:26pm Sydney Time. The Moon is in the sign of Libra !!
.
.
Other Strange Facts You Didn't Want To Know
.
The name Lucia means Light and therefore I think an apt name for the moon.
St Lucia was a 4th century martyr from Syracuse and patron saint to the blind. She was said to have had her eyes gouged out and thus is the patron saint to the blind.

Tropical Dreams
.
.

With summer coming to an end I'm in the mood for a tropical escape. Some years back I took my first trip to Bali during the easter break, then a few years later it was Phuket, so my mind is headed in that direction ...or maybe Fiji? Anywhere as long as it is tropical.. Warm balmy nights, the sweet scent of frangipani ... Daily massages.. oooh.. it's a hard life.
.
.

One thing I loved about both Bali and Phuket was the daily offerings of thanks. Small rituals to give thanks for health, wellbeing and perhaps all that beauty. The smell of incense and spices filling the air and embracing my senses. I still cannot smell sandalwood without being transported back to that feeling of relaxation and calm. Of course there is also the people. Friendly gentle people who welcome you like like a friend, or family member returning from a long journey. Yes.. there are many reasons to fly away to a tropical island.

.
.

Well my lemons, limes and peaches aren't quite a tropical vacation, but it's a starting point. A point of inspriration and inspired my cockatoo images. All adventures begin with dreams. I think tomorrow I might burn some sandalwood, lookup some holiday destinations and start dreaming. I was going to take more photos.. but I ate the props..
.
.

Oh and the light bulbs?
The beginning of a new idea.. or quite simply.. I just like them.

.
.

.
.

..I hope your new week is filled with dreams and inspiration..
.. tropical or otherwise..
.
.

The Best Medicine
.
I was feeling the need for a little TLC this week so I popped round to my friend's home for a quick visit. Lucky for me this is the type of friend who is happy for me to call in unannounced, even if it is only a 5 minutes visit on the way home from some errand. For me it is akin to walking back into my childhood home. As I walk through the door I am always greeted by a flurry of activity. Four children bustling about to get to their scheduled activities but always time to stop and greet me with hugs, kisses and those winning smiles that only children know how to produce. Faces that light up with genuine affection and good cheer. It never ceases to touch my heart to feel this token of familiar affection. My adopted family.
.
So feeling a little poorly this week I popped round for a dose of TLC and shining faces. I also popped round to steal a few roses from their front garden.. Yes.. that's me .. the rose thief. However the roses were feeling a little poorly too with the unseasonal heat this week so most were passed the picking stage... and at the fall back to the earth stage .. but with some scrutiny I found just a handful of these tiny blooms to take home with me..
.
.
A quick arrangement in a small medicinal bottle
.
.. and these scant few blooms became art.. Pocket sized beauty to place on my nightstand. Not one to pass up a photo opportunity, this small piece of stolen beauty has bloomed into all of the images you see above. Just three small buds. So just like the quick visit to my friend's home .. a small amount of beauty can go along way in improving one's outlook. The best medicine I say!

don't stop here as I have some bloggers to thank
.

Well some more TLC came my way in the form of two giveaway wins.. and an award
.
THANK YOU !
.
The first win was three 'textures' to use with my photoshop manipulations.. What a lucky and timely win from the gorgeous photography blog Traci Thorson Photography. Traci's photography is exceptional and has certainly encouraged me to try harder and get more creative with photoshop. I have used one of her 'french script textures' in images #4,5 & 8 above. Please pop over and say hi. You'll be rewarded with the beautiful work of this talented photographer .. Thank you once again Traci for my win and your inspiration.
.
My second win is breaking news! Just in from the talented Jill of Gypsy Brocante. Jill's has a fabulous blog full of her crafty creations and gorgeous photos. She also has wonderful onlinebrocante shop offering fabulous vintage treasures along with her own clever creations of want-to-have jewellery and accessories. I was lucky enough to win this gorgeous Gypsy Bag. As I said.. hot of the press.. so can't wait to see it in person.. Thank You Jill for this lovely gift.
.
.

.
Next, an award from the beautiful Dash of French Sampler. Dash blogs about her daily life in South West France, her trips to places far and near and other gorgeous pieces of artistic beauty. Always something delectable and delicious over at Dash's blog. A secret treasure .. but I'm sure not for long. Please pop in and tell her I sent you and say hello to Crusoe also! Dash has given me the Beaux Arts Award.. created by her own hand. Thank you so much Dash for thinking of me and for always entertaining me with your delightful posts and images. I will be treasuring this award and passing it on in the near future.
