BLACK & WHITE Sunday: And a little bit bit pink

*

I can't show you this man's face

*

No ... He is not a dentist

*

He is another of Gianlorenzo Bernini’s blatant ‘tongue in cheek’ digs at his rival Francesco Borromini. When I posted the 2nd guy below [here], the lovely and knowledgeable Simone from The Bottom of the Ironing Basket pointed out that Bernini had made yet another dig at Borromini by placing a statue with his back turned to Borromini’s facade! [if you are getting confused with the Bernini’s and Borromini’s try writing this post!]. Anyway… Simone’s comment encouraged me to go on a search.. and digging through my photos.. alas.. I found the second guy!! Sure enough he has his back turned to the facade AND has his head draped to protect himself from this vision!! How funny.. those whacky feuding sculptors!!

Unfortunately once I chopped the heads and arms of my fellow tourists out of the picture, this was all that was left. Also below is the original photo I posted of ‘Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi’ .. but this time in Black & White. So although nothing new in way of photos... stick around as there are some awards at the end.

xoxo to you, Julie. I can't believe how easily it is to pop over to see you (& now to see these handbags of which you speak), with fast internet. I'll be excited for awhile so everyone will have to excuse my unbridled enthusiasm. I was in the early 1990s tech-speaking & suddenly it's late 2009...in a matter of one day, really.

Love the pix, but of course. I have had so many wonderful Roman Sundays. This will absolutely be enough to hold me for now. Off to look at these handbags...

ciao-ciao

Julie,
Thank you for this interesting post. I’m fascinated by the behind the scene scenarios that is often present in artwork. It makes for a fuller understanding of the piece, and adds layers of intrigue and amusement.

Julie-I have to say that you are teaching me about places and things I knew nothing about. Fun!

I'm glad you made it to my "mom" blog, you will probably get to "know' me better on that one.

The handbags are yummy.

JULIE!!!! thank you sooooooo much darling!! how fun to visit you today (ALWAYS) and see my name! i am humbled, my dear. just when i was feeling like maybe nobody was caring about my blog (partially from the hormones at work here) then you honor me and make me want to be a better person and blogger. Thank you, thank you, thank you! this blogosphere is an amazing place for sure...i am still learning to navigate...but, perhaps that is the best pay off. the constant learning. i never even learned to type let alone compute, and here i am giving it a go! as always, your post gorgeous and inspiring...'wacky feuding sculptors' is hilarious (i swear men are hormonal too!) again, i thank you from the bottom of my heart, your support has blown me away and is greatly appreciated...kisses, hugs and a big squeeze! erin

Oh Julie... you're so lovely....all of those flattering things that you said....I'm feeling all embarassed !!!!Everything that I say about your photographs is true. They are beautiful, and give us all a taste of the beauty and culture of these wonderful countries. You are truly gifted in photography and writing and you open our eyes to the culture and beauty that can be found around the world.I love your B&W Sundays and long may they continue. You are a loyal, kind and generous blogging friend and I am so pleased to have met you.
As Carole said, it's such a shame that we live so far away, but, we will remain blogging penpals or should I say email pals.
Oh, crikey!!!!...I haven't even commented on your B&W Sunday. What I love is that these beautiful sculptures that we see all over the world, always have a great story behind them, as this one does. Your photographs are superb with that wonderful 'Julie grainy' quality that I love and which brings a vintage look to them.
Once again Julie, thank you for my award and for being a dear friend. XXXX
