All Hallows’ Eve: Invite The Ancestors Over !!!

Only a thin veil of scepticism separates our physical world from the mystical plains of our Ancestors. On ‘All Hallows’ Eve’ this veil is ruptured, the fabric torn and tattered, easily breached by those who reside in the ethereal world.

They hear the earthly calls from loved ones left behind and float toward our insistent cries. If you are afraid of these ghostly visitations, their mysterious non-earthly presence, then you must lock your windows and bolt the doors, drawer the curtains closed and light a candle for your protection. Pour salt around the perimeter to stop them crossing your threshold. Burn sage leaves to clear your abode of their swirling thoughts and emotions …. OR….

You could simply invite them in!!! After all they are Family!! Who better to protect you from the werewolfs, vampires and witches roaming the earth on this hallowed eve, than these ghostly apparitions!! So have a little fun and ….

Halloween 14a

HI y’all. I’ve been off the blogging merry-go-round this week with Flu#3 [or is it #4?] and work.. work.. and some more work… The flu is letting off a bit but the work promises to ramp up more from now until the year end.. So… apologies for the lack of blogging.. and more importantly… the lack of visiting your blogs… Hopefully I will get around to visit you all this Halloween week and pop in and say ‘Boo !!!’

Halloween 14a

Well the ‘Trick’ [above] may be a bit lame, but the ‘Treat’ is sure to be a crowd pleaser. You may recall I mentioned another giveaway coming up soon. Yes it is still on the cards… in fact it has just been waiting for me to get my blogging act together. So, with some luck and assistance from my Ancestors, I will be posting your ‘Treat’ real soon… this week I hope. So please don’t forget me.. even If I do seem to be ‘Off with the Ancestors!!!’

Ciao Julie

IMAGES: Vintage Photos: from the family library of Being Ruby and wickedly altered by me [Being Ruby] [YES they are my dead relatives …Sorry Mum, Dad and all the others! Hope they don’t mind a bit of irreverence – after all it is Halloween !!! But please dear Ancestors - don’t visit me tonight! Pehaps this little invocation of mine calls for the Salt & Sage!!!]

Good for me it´s daylight while I´m watching your post, if I would watch it in the dark, I would probably start to imagine things =D. That´s me....

Work, work , work.... Well, I hope you will get some time off this weekend, to relax and celebrate.

Have a lovely day.

Awesome Julie - but I'm home alone (in an old house) in the middle of the country tonight with 4 small children. Guess I'll definitely have to invite the ghosties in (not sure if the ancestors will make it from Aussi & NZ seeing as it's surely closer for them to pick on my brother in Perth!) but WHOSE??? See if you can make it to see me before Sunday and check Thurdsay's post ... Maybe I won't make it back... ;-)

Hi Julie,
I was so busy this week that I did not have much time to read blogposts! But here I am again!
What a post you did here! You now here in Belgium we know Halloween, but not in these terms that you do!
I wish you a wonderful Halloween with your ancestors!!!

Happy Halloween, Julie!
Thanks for the great post. Like your contemplative approach to Halloween; well-done. (Very nice visuals as well, but that was to be expected at BEING RUBY.)
See you again soon, maybe at my own blog as well. Would be a pleasure!
Best,
Michael

Just fabulous images Julie. I am sitting here on Halloween listening to the blood curdling screams coming from the Halloween Party my boys are attending next door. I am trying not to look out the window as "there are going to be lots of girls there Mum" and I don't want to embarass my big boy. I did have a peek though, little one is under his feet and wont let him get close to any pretty thing.... talk about cramping his style... hubby and I are in hysterics. Glad you are feeling better. Have a great weekend! A-M xx

you're hilarious, julie! what a fabulous post, i laughed and smiled the whole way through. (and i am sure your beautiful ancestors would not mind a bit, they obviously are partly responsible for your wicked sense of humour.) hope you are feeling better. x

Those are some scary pictures!

Hope you are feeling better. I"ll be spending Halloween with my (living) ancestors tonight. Don't think I'll dress up though. The vintage prom dress I was going to wear somehow got too little for me. I know, I'll go as a crazy blogger! Not sure what to wear, but I'm sure something will come to me!

Happy Halloween to you!

Hugs,
Tamerie

You've probably inherited much of your delightful irreverent outlook from your ancestors, so they probably would enjoy your "wicked" alterations. Thanks so much for such a spirited Halloween posting!

Glad to see you rising from the dead!!! ha-ha so to speak. Your in big trouble for using your family photos like that Miss Julie! They're sure to haunt you now!

Get better & if you're asleep, I hope you went with a clear conscience. Because this post & the photographic permutations are funny. If they can't take a joke, well...send them over here & I'll give them a talking to. OK, now that just scared me.

Ach.

I love what you have done with the photos and I love the thought - after all if your ancestors won't protect you who will. I haven't felt my Front Room ghost for a while but we bought a new rug for it yesterday so maybe she has been whisked away but the spirits. xoxo

This was absolutely side splitting, creative and a lot ghoulish!! I don't know if I can sleep tonight. You have a wicked sense of humor.

I hope you will be feeling better. All around me people are getting some strain of the flu. I had a flu shot and gave tons of recommendastions to the fam, but now it's a bit late. My hands are always immersed in some sort of cleaning product, that is why homemakers so rarely get ill!! I also hope your work eases up. I remember those days. They say raising chidren is the toughest job...well, I remember my working girl days and I beg to differ!

Have a nice and hopefully peaceful evening! ;-)

xoxo

Julie, are you trying to freak us out? Mighty scary ancestors.

I loved this! I've been gone for a few days myself. I tried checking in a bit from the hotel, but I was too tired from our sightseeing to function by the time we got in at night.

You are sick again? I know that it took 4 weeks for me to stop wheezing and I'm still coughing a bit. I was lucky, I only really felt badly for the first week. I hope you are getting some strong meds?? Take care and no one could forget you:)

Hello Julie! What a wonderful post! Surely it's the best and the most interesting I've read in these days and I like how you altered your ancestors' photos! I don't celebrate Halloween...in Italy is something for children...but Saints and deads...yes!
Happy new week and take care!

OK! Those were some scary photos! Are you a professional photographer? If you're not you should be! Your manipulation of those photos was pure genius. It was manipulation right? RIGHT? Please say it's so or I will never be able to sleep without a light again! Fabulous post!

You know, it's really mean to use your powers for evil.....This post freaked me out, and Halloween was a couple of days ago (I've been stuck in the laundry and haven't been able to find an exit to visit you until now). Sorry to hear about your flu....we've got it here too. Sending you a virtual lemon and honey hot tea. Meredy xo.
p.s. I saw the trailer for "Amelia" last weekend at the movies and TOTALLY thought of you....I hope it's as good as the trailer depicts.
