Antiques With A Nautical Theme

Seems I can't stay away from the sea too long.. even when window shopping for antiques... The globes and nautical paraphernalia remind me of my grandfather and his adventurous youth at sea... My childhood memories of their home is one filled with English antiques... dark comforting timber and nautical artwork and paraphernalia.. so this antique shop in Noosa brought back many warm memories for me... I also seem to have an addiction to green and turquoise since visiting Noosa.. All my recent acquisitions seem to be in these soothing tones... I think again it is a sea theme... Although I didn't buy anything from the shop above.. I had some serious thoughts about buying a late 1800's Shell Frame with sweet ship painting inside. It took all my willpower .. plus a look at my bank balance to refrain!! Ditto for that fabulous mirror & globes.

Eumundi

Noosa Hinterland

I did manage to buy some wonderful items from another antique store in Eumundi. Eumundi is a small friendly town that has proudly retained it's heritage buildings and old world atmosphere and is situated in the hinterlands above Noosa. Apparently.. our now ousted Prime Minister Kevin Rudd attended Eumundi Primary School, something the bus driver was keen to share, however it is it's bustling market day on Wednesdays and Saturdays that makes this town a must place to visit. I managed to visit on both.. and spent a large amount of time once again.. trawling the bookstores and local antique shops.. one shop in particular.. 'Continuum'.
.
.

I loved this shop for it's diversity... Antiques, Vintage and Retro items fighting for my affection... But the winners were a French Enamel Lunchpail in soft aqua and some vintage Glass Sea Floats... something I have long long hoped to acquire... I bought three in varying sizes and shapes.. and love them to bits!!!... Another fabulous factor about this shop was the owner Debra and her husband Doug.. both graciously allowed me to ask them a million questions about their lifestyle, shopping trips to France twice a year and general questions about selling antiques. Perhaps I have a sudden urge to emulate this lifestyle. The difference though is Doug and Debra have over 20 years experience in antiques.. and me? I have about 20 minutes.!! Still.. we can dream. If you're ever in Eumundi.. make sure you visit their shop!! An absolute treasure trove!! Here are some shots of my purchases back home.

Another favourite shop.. although not antiques, I loved everything inside and out. Particularly their lovely window displays.. I bought myself some shells.. which I'm sure you'll see at some point.. but it is the artwork in the window [below] that really caught my eye.. such a lovely piece that which evokes soft and fuzzy warm feelings.. I can't remember the artist's name.. a testament to my bad memory these days.

Now.. the Green & Turquoise acquisitions don't stop here.. Upon arrival home I was greeted with a package from France.. A package filled with Green & Turquoise antiques from our dear friend Sharon's new shop.. 'My French Country Brocante'.. I can't wait to show you these too.. but think it deserves a post of it's own.. Meanwhile you can always go and peruse her lovely antiques and brocante finds online [here] and snaffle a few pretties for yourself.. or a loved one for Christmas.
.

.

I hope you've all been enjoying a wonderful week
Next Stop: Sharon's Online Brocante then back to the sea and Noosa

Good morning dearest Julie!

WOW. Your photos are just stunning and on top of your talents, I am sure that you have a decent camera. I have a little COOL PIX that takes very washed out pictures and please, do tell, what kind of camera are you using? I LOVE EVERY SINGLE PHOTO HERE and that French lunch bucket is just stunning. The subjects are fabulous, but really, your skills in capturing the beauty of these articles is exceptional. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE TURQUOISE GOODIES YOU ARE GOING TO SHARE!

Have a wonderful day dear, Anita

I LOVE that mirror. It is over the top gorgeous. The crystal and silver is beautiful too. Such beautiful stores. The globe reminds me of my globe as a child. Thank you for sharing these, as always, beautiful images.
Have a wonderful day, Julie.

Lovely choices, Julie. The chippy rust & glow of the lunch pail, & the clear shine of the floats... against the moody feel of your images, they make for a beautiful vignette.

Peace & cookies,
Julia~

wow! I go away for a week and there is so much going on! Australia has always been on my bucket list and now it's more compelling than ever. I too go for green and turquoise....the sea and the sky.....All of your photos are amazing.....love your personal style. Magazine worthy for sure. ....sell yourself girl...you have a product that the world would love to see....I too would love to fly over your country.....wouldn't be freaky at all! I always used to love flying but a few, snowy, wing de-iced flights have made me a little anxious. But if there was a clear view over the sunshine coast...man, I would be keen again. Great treasures!...look forward to seeing them...tropical has always been my thing but Canada is my country....good thing we have a holiday booked for Mexico!...that keeps me going.....Ciao! Susan

Julie I can't think of anyone I'd rather go shopping with than you! This was lovely. I am crushing on the lunch pail. What a great find. Everthing in the shops look even more beautiful when seen through the lens of your camera. The sea floats are beautiful. My SIL lives in Alaska and she finds many of them along the coast line there.
The shops you took us to, are full of beautiful things to wish over.
I hope the start to your December is great. It is getting beautiful here with the snow covering the farmlands around me, and as much as I complain about the cold, it is a lovely sight. But you can only find me near the fire, snug in the house.
I think of you and your Summer often and wish you well my friend.
Big hugs

Precious finds...I'm mad about glass and floats...I was amused by the picture of George Washington and a ship in the first shop :) such an exaggerated stance!

Seaglass green/aqua is my favorite color. I have pops of it mixed in with all my browns here. I don't have any floats yet, but they remain on my wish list...so pretty! How fun for you and for us to share!

Serious inspiration! It is a fun vacation to walk through your blog. Your blog has inspired me in such a way as I am passing along two blog awards. Please visit my blog at http://theskinnyonmini.blogspot.com/2010/12/sweet-surprises-blog-awardsfor-me-so.html to accept one or both of them. And before I go, I want to thank you for sharing your life, your thoughts, your passions with all of us. ~ Blessings, Janet

I love shopping while traveling. I buy things I wouldn't necessarily buy at home {if the bank account allows, of course}! But it is just as fun to look and dream and get to know the area and culture.

I am looking forward to seeing what you bought at Sharon's shop. I have browsed it a few times and almost had the husband convinced we needed knife rests!

XO,
Jane

Julie -- After a long day at the office, your patina-filled post in mellow hues of old gold and silver was just what the doctor ordered. Gorgeous selection. But then again, you always know how to choose 'em.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Michael

Oh, I LOVE that lunchbox and glass floats are a favorite, of course. I always wonder how far and from where they traveled to end up in someone's decor.

You're attention to detail when you're photographing any item is so commendable. Yes, I did notice that you turned the globe to show Australia to us in the bottom right. You always remind that I need to slow down and think about my shots, sometimes I get so caught up in what I'm doing that I don't pay enough attention to those little details that make a photo stand out.

Now you may think I'm running behind on my visiting, but I'm not this time. I knew you were going to be doing lovely posts about your vacation and I wanted to stop in when I had the time to sit and savor each and every one. So, I'm sitting here, relaxing with a cup of coffee and taking in each and every pic and word. Ahhhh…this is a good day.

Hugs
