WHAT’S YOUR FLAVOUR: Inspired by the Sea at Twilight

One of life’s simple pleasures is taking a stroll beside the sea. I know I’ve said it before, but I love to take this walk at twilight. The vivid colours consistently inspire and amaze me, delighting with their ever changing hues. Hues that relax the eyes and soothe the senses. Therefore a perfect subject to resurrect my old theme ‘What’s Your Flavour’ [more here]

When you think of seaside inspiration in decor .. don’t restrict yourself to just the fresh & muted blues & whites [not that there’s anything wrong with that .. I like those also]. But, perhaps consider breaking out of the mould with some of the bolder hued variations that dominate the sea and sky, found on a seasides stroll at twilight. I hope to tempt you over to the dark & colourful side with these vignettes & the original images that provided their inspiration!! C’mon, take a walk with me at twilight!

Don’t worry. I won’t flog the ‘MUM pics’ too much longer. I took most of these last Sunday when attempting to find a pic for [that post]. The resulting colours & combinations inspired me to get a little creative with the camera. PS If you looks closely you will see my J. Beaudet painting ... 'Kapalua on Maui' making it self at home.

The first twilight picture could be Coronado Beach with Mexico in the distance! Lovely pictures!

Oh, I agree, there are so many colors to be discovered..., in shells, rocks, driftwood, grass... As you probably know I have an orange room inspired by the local Quahog shell. Such gorgeous pics!! And I do love the deep blue of the sea at twilight.

I love the ocean, my favorite place to be. I'm actually sitting hundreds of miles from the nearest beach...but, I accent my brown and taupe living space with what I call "Sea Glass Green". I loved this post.

Julie,

Taking a walk on the dark side here...I am attracted to the palette of your inky blue washes.

Such serene and beautiful photos. I would love to get up close and personal with the tideline of that beach to see the shells that may have washed ashore!

I'm a dusty pink and silvery grey kinda girl, Julie.I just love all of the different treatments you do to your photographs.... you're very clever. The fact that the picture of your mum is in the background gives it an even lovlier quality. ...you really do bring the sea and your interesting possessions alive with your treatment of the photographs and your beautifully written text..... a lovely, calming post. Absolutely gorgeous vignettes - love them all, but if I had to choose I think the charcoal grey & steely blues would really do it for me! Lee :)

Hello dear girl. Lovely photos...don't stop posting them. You just inspired me to make a choice on something sartorial. That I can make a choice is amazing to me considering...what's been going on the last years. So thanks, Julie. Off to look at some catalogues again...since I can't be by the sea. (I"m working on that.)

Such romantic ocean shots. Beautiful.
I do love all the colors of the sea.
All the shades of blue are mesmerizing
and I do love silvery gray. Probably why I adore mercury glass.

A walk by the ocean is the perfect destresser too.

Lovely post.

Ok I can't decide which is my favorite? Can I pick all of them? You know I'm a sucker for B & W , but the silver pink...ahhh and the blue is gorgeous. The whole composition is amazing and with the added touch of your moms photograph makes it that much more special. Did you do the effect from your camera or something else?
I've seen a few others do waterside wednesday and probably should try it seeing as I live along the shore but I love my White Wednesday. How will I ever pick????lol

I so agree. As much as I love pale, darker shades of the same hues seem to make home feel complete. Yin & yang, I guess.

Interesting, we both chose a twilight post today.

Sweet daydreams,

the colours remind me of the colours you see under water, like corals and other subtle hues.

once again your pics take my breath away. I love all the colour combinations but if I had to pick one is would be the charcoal and steely blues.

Interesting that you should ask this question... I spent the past 2 days trying to get my sister to think of coastal as being many colors...not just the blues, soft greens, and whites. On my last visit to St Augustine, I was captivated by the wildflowers...shades of orange, deep red, brown and yellow...waving in the dunes. There were also deep pinks and purples. These too are colors of the coast...

These are gorgeous, especially the dusty pink/silvery gray. And twilight is my favorite time to walk anywhere! Everything seems slightly more mysterious, and I feel better cloaked in a bit of dusky darkness.
