Positano In Pink & Gold: [and a little blue]

POSITANO IN PINK & GOLD [& a touch of Blue]

One of nature’s glorious gifts to this world is Colour and Positano has it in abundance. Bathed in Golden Sunlight .. Punctuated by the Flaming Pink of Bougainvillea .. and Draped in the Misty Blue Skies reflecting Blues of the Mediterranean. Gratefully the mere mortals that inhabit this wonderland respect nature’s artistry and adorn their homes in subdued tones of the same palette.

I seem to have missed spring entirely and my fizz is a little fizzled. So today, after my nanna nap, I took a walk down memory lane and dug out these photos of Positano. Seems the perfect solution to brighten one’s outlook and put a little zing in my zang.

One of my great travel regrets [besides never making it to Cinque Terre] was that I did not stay in a room overlooking the sea. After dreaming about the Amalfi Coast for many years, the friend I was travelling with did not want to spend the extra dollars. Instead we stayed in an underground hostel with an inept humidifier, sharing a room with a dozen other travellers and sleeping with our money and passport down our pants. The joys of backpacking. Some things in life should not be scrimped, the Amalfi Coast is one of them.

Hope you enjoy this display of colour. Of course there are more Amalfi Coast images but you’ll just have to wait for those. I may even work my way up to some Christmas cheer soon but for now enjoy the Bougainvillea.

Ciao Julie

Julie..Julie..Julie - I'm in complete awe of your photos. Bougainvillea is one of my favorite (have a vine in my backyard) & with the Amalfi Coast as it's back drop, it is jaw dropping. I loved what you said about somethings you can't scrimp on. You must of traveled with husband?!! I'll say it again, your photography blows me away. Happy weekend to you dear friend. Would you believe it's snowing in Houston this a.m.? That's like snowing in Australia! Hugs from Houston xx

Oh I hope you can go back & stay in a place near the sea, Julie. I was so lucky to have friends living just a bit away from here, with a view of the sea. Alas, they've moved inland a tad. Gorgeous photographs. And I still try to make the change to spring when I "visit" ...with some difficulty, as we are expecting snow tonight/tomorrow (I type this at 1:15pm Washington, DC time). xoxoxo

Oh this coast looks fabulous, unlike anything we have here. I would love a stay in the pink building, waking each morning to the sounds of the shore — heaven!

Thanks for taking the time to stop by, I know your schedule is hectic right now. Glad to hear it's almost over and life can return to a bit of normalcy.

Bougainvillia is great cheer itself!! I love Positano Julie. Went there for my 30th (oh so looong ago) and stayed with Mum who came all the way over for a 4 day weekend with her Flight Attendant girlfriend. We stayed in a room overlooking the sea drinking Limoncello!! You must come back and do it again. .. I don't think it will ever change!

Oh Julie, Positano. As you know, I was there this summer and it is as beautiful as you have shown it. The bourgainvilla, the soft colours of the buildings and the wonderful coastline. We arrived by boat and it was a joy to behold. As I am older now, and not a backpacker, we were staying in more comfortable quarters !!( Oh God, I'm so English, I sound like Charles Dickens !!) without having to stick my money down my knickers !!!! Beautiful photographs showing the wonder that is Positano. XXXX

These are my very favourite of yours so far, and I'd like to have no. 9 beautifully framed on my wall. I'll have to go there. As you point out, the delicately painted buildings against brasher nature work beautifully.

Oh Julie! The photos are magnificent! I have never been to the Amalfi Coast, but I sure will be adding it to my list of places I'd love to visit. I just finished listening to a book that takes place on Capri and my friend Dan is thinking of going to Italy for Christmas, so I kind of have Italy on the brain. The bougainvillea is so pretty and I love the way you have altered the pictures. Just makes me wish I could hop a plane to Italy. I'd probably like it better in summer though. Anyway, great post and I can't wait for more pictures at a later date.

Hugs,
Tamerie

Dearest, Julie...
This post is fantastic, it makes me want to go there, NOW!!!
Oh, how I long for some vacation...=)
Your images are breathtaking , as usual...

I´m glad , you starting to feel the christmas spirit. I´m feeling it too. And slowly, I have bagan decorating the house, but still have a looong way to go...and it´s only two weeks away from christmas eve...

My mom is still hospitalized, and I´m not sure she will be home for christmas, but I really, really hope , she will be able to spend christmas eve with us at home, even if she has to go back there.

Thank you soo much , for your warming comment. Your words gives me strength. And I´m glad you enjoy my english version. Even if it´s a bit shorter, it´s better than the translator tool, don´t you think?

I wish you a great end of this week, and hope to see you soon.

BTW, your previous post, is gorgeous, too.

Love/
Luiza

Hehe, here is a answer to your question:
No, painting is not my melody...but I love the artistic way they put the color tubes at "Hannas Garden"...

What I wouldn't do to be there right now. So romantic and old world. Seeing all those homes clustered on the hill.....ahhhh so far removed from anything like what we have here. .
I know I've said I love winter but summer is looking pretty good right now. It's rained non stop today....not good for selling x-mas trees. Oh but maybe tomorrow it'll snow!!!

Hi precious Julie,
well...i love this post(of course) and will be putting this magical place on my "bucket list"! isn't it amazing, those pastel structures built on the side of a hill like that? so, so beautiful...i would love to paint the scenery there. you should definately go for the view next time around, but aren't you glad you have that memory of the gritty hostile? (perhaps not?) you are very fortunate to have done so much traveling and we are fortunate that you are sharing your adventures with us! Thank you!

Fantastic photo's - wish I was there especially as it's been particularly dreary in Normandy, where I live. Shame you didn't stay in a villa with a balcony - it definitely calls for another trip. Get saving those pennies...

Hi Julie, you've well and truly transported me back to Positano with your beautiful photographs. I remember those narrow, steep, winding roads, the little coves only accessible by both, the houses perched precariously above one another...and oh that view!

I just know that you'll get to go back there one day and stay in a place with a spectacular view, and I'm sure you'll fit in the walking trails on the Cinque Terre too. I never go to do it either!! Lee :)

I love those flowers ! Such amazing colours and they just bloom and bloom.

Has your work settled down??

Thank you for coming by when i was away too!! xxx

Maya @ Completely Coastal said...

I totally missed out on Cinque Terre too. I was there with a friend and we decided that it was too much trouble (for some reason) to find a hotel..., I think it was busy season and you have to drive up and down the hill (again) to visit each village..., so we took off. I hope to be back there one day..., a major Europe trip would be nice!!

here's a bit of trivia- Bougainvilleas attract termites, so never grow one over your home! I have one on a fence though, and it looks superb

i know costiera amalfitana quite well and i agree with you that it's ovely to stay in a nice hotel with a sea view. unfortunately i never did. instead i stayed in an ugly appartment in naples above the fish market (hehe). your pictures are beautiful, like usual. you should come to cinque terre as well but to be honest in my opinion la costiera amalfitana is better. i have some new posts on milan and the most recent one on my travel to switzerland. sending you hugs,
justyna
