Christmas at Atrani

I’ve been a little irregular at keeping up with Black & White Sunday. I also have been lax at getting into the Christmas spirit, so I thought I’d kick off my Christmas posts with some black & white images of Atrani. Homemade Christmas Cards ‘Alla Ruby’. Ok so I’m taking some artistic license with the subject matter [not really Christmassy although they are churches!].

Some time ago I saw a documentary of Atrani at Christmastime, the town looked so beautiful adorned with simple decorations of candlelight, illuminated stars and religious artefacts. Celebrations of Christmas were held in the town square and the many wonderful churches! I think it would be the perfect place to enjoy this season.

Travel Envy

Well I think that is enough post of Atrani for now [do I hear a sigh of relief ?] Seeing I won’t make it there for Christmas.. and you probably won’t either.. I found this link to provide you with some spectacular travel envy… The Italian equivalent to Google maps [here]

Happy Belated Kick Off for Christmas

Hi Ruby, thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving such lovely comments. Don't 'fash' about making the rounds, it's a understandably a busy time of year. your images of Atrani are stunning Julie......what's more amazing, is that you actually took them, meaning; saw it with your own eyes.....walked the ground around them......

hope you are enjoying your weekend and not working so hard...

Thank you so much for stopping by and introducing yourself. You have wonderful photography work here. And "fiddling" with colors, etc.<--My un-technical word for photoshoping. lol.

Love meeting another blogger who loves photographs, although I'm very un-skilled, I still love to try my hand at it.

And also love meeting another blogger who has Stretch Minima template and tweeks her pics to "big"! It took me forever to learn how to do this. But it's been fun, since I learned.

Happy Christmas!

Gentle hugs,
From: 'Aunt Amelia'
To: Julie, who uses Amelia Earhart as her Icon :-)

Oh and your Dec. 2 Moon shot was gorgeous!

But that was not the last Full Moon for '09. There's a Blue Full Moon on the 31st I think it is! New Year's Eve and a Full Blue Moon. Eeeek! Happily, we never go out on New Year's Eve. :-)

Gentle hugs,
'Aunt Amelia'

Hi Julie

Who cares if the cards aren't typical or traditional Christmas images? Christmas is whatever you say it is. I think the images are beautiful. Sometimes simple really is best.

Hugs,
Tamerie

If these wonderful places are half as beautiful as these photos it would be the perfect place for Christmas - maybe next year! Leigh

Many thanks for gorgeous Christmas wishes, Julie.
Lovely photographs with a Christmas flavour.
I love the first one but my favourite has to be the last image of Atrani. The way you have changed it gives it a very Christmas feel and looks as if there has been a flurry of snow that has gently landed on the roof of the church and looks wonderful.
Tonight , we are going to see a meteor shower, here in the U.K. with 100 shooting stars an hour.I think that it will be quite a sight.
Have a good week Julie. XXXX

Hi Julie,

Sorry it has taken me sooooo long to write, I just find the day slips away before it even starts. I love these images, oh, wouldn't it be nice to have a winter Christmas and not our usual hot sweltering Christmas Day.

Imagine arriving at Atrani in beautiful winter boots and a gorgeous long coat over your shoulders with the dining table set in front of the Christmas tree and an open fireplace.

When my children were little I would dress them up in their beautiful clothes and no sooner than arriving at the family's home for Christmas day they would strip off and jump in the pool. I'm such a winter girl...pool parties are just not my thing anymore.

Wishing you a lovely Christmas season.
xxxx Coty

You know, I think I like Christmas in black and white. The real thing can be a bit garish for me, whereas these images speak to me of old movies and choirs and snow. All I need now is for you to zoom over and photograph my children for me so that they look angelic, just so as to fool future generations. It's not too much to ask?

Ruby, I am intrigued. Why did you work so hard for so long? And how long is your break for now? Still, how you managed to put together such a lovely blog in barely any time must say something about how fabulous you are.
